Inke Brugman
Inke Brugman creates contemplative, narrative artworks that focus on the vulnerability of the human psyche. Her art delves into the discomfort and unease that come with navigating life, both within and outside of established boundaries.
Brugman approaches her work reflectively, constructing new realities from existing images. She collects these images daily from news reports, social media, and her own photographs, using them to build a new setting and narrative.
Through the use of contrasts and contradictions, she challenges straightforward interpretations. She prefers to raise questions rather than provide clear answers. It is up to the viewer to interpret the work and reflect on its meaning.
Inke Brugman (b. 1970) has been a practicing visual artist since 1990. Initially self-taught, she pursued her artistic development alongside her career as a child psychologist. Over time, she further developed her skills by attending various masterclasses and (parttime) art-academies in the Netherlands and Belgium. Her work is deeply shaped by her extensive background in psychology and her passion for art history.
